Akes' Place
Biography & Highlights
You'll hit the door at Akes' Place right off Church Street in Burlington before you even hear the guitars tuning up inside. The front window's always fogged over from body heat and cheap draft pours, and there's usually a smoker leaning against the brick frame checking their phone. You pay the cover in cash to a guy wearing a faded Carhartt beanie who doesn't look up from his clipboard. It's loud immediately.
The room's tiny, narrow, and smells heavily of old cedar and spilled IPA. You can't breathe easy near the bar because people cluster five deep waiting for pitchers. The stage is basically a raised wooden pallet in the corner where local punk acts cram their gear against the wall. PA cabs screech if someone steps too close to the monitors, but nobody cares because the crowd's already bouncing off each other.
Bathrooms are down a creaky hallway past the kitchen where someone's tossing frozen pizzas into an oven. You'll dodge half-empty pint glasses on sticky floorboards just getting to the alley exit when it gets too hot. Security just nods if you need a breather outside.
